Hope Factory: Adelaide — The Architecture of Deliberate Hope For Teams
Leaders and teams doing work that matters don’t burn out because they stop caring. We burn out when our tools for navigating no longer work. In the wake of profound personal and collective grief, I learned that hope isn't a passive emotion we sit around and wait for—it is a deliberate skill we can build.
Building on its initial run at the Four Chicken Gallery in San Francisco, The Hope Factory was brought to Adelaide to show teams that hope has a literal architecture consisting of three parts: Goals, Pathways, and Agency.
Through tactile, hands-on activities like the "Walls of Respair," teams discover that hope and despair are not opposites. Our grief, fear, and systemic exhaustion can exist at the exact same time we stubbornly choose to map a pathway forward.
We explored what respair means—recovering from despair, finding fresh hope. We mapped what brings despair and what sparks hope, stringing between the two our practices of respair. We learned evidence-based hope frameworks: making progress, active hope, relationships & community, imagination, vocation, present-focused practices.
Most importantly: we practiced hope together. We were hope in action. One participant arrived thinking she couldn't cultivate hope. She left knowing she could. Another said: "I felt like I grew."
Building hope alone is one thing. Building hope in community? That becomes a catalyzing force. Learning from each other. The work of resilience together.
Every participant left as a certified hope builder—with frameworks, worksheets, and practices they can implement immediately in their teams and organizations.
Hope Factory—where we build hope together.
The Outcomes of Building Hope for Teams:
Increasing Well-Being: When teams structurally learn how to co-create and map alternative pathways to their goals, individual and organizational well-being increases.
Actionable Resilience: Participants who enter the workshop feeling stuck leave with concrete tools to cultivate agency. The workshop structurally moves teams out of defensive survival modes and into spaces of collective flourishing, helping them achieve goals they previously thought were impossible.
